Crash the chatter box!

Here's another review for another pure amazing book!

"But when the Father sends the Counselor as my representative -- and by the Counselor I mean the Holy Spirit -- he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I myself have told you.  I am leaving you with a gift -- peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid." John 14:26-27

I honestly believe that the holy spirit worked through this young man every moment he worked on this book. I had never heard of Steven Furtrick before I requested this book, I had no idea what to expect from this, so many wonderful things were found in this book it would take all day for me to explain them! This isn't a book that will make you feel guilty, or that you have done something wrong, that is not even close to what it teaches you. It is to give you peace of mind, to fight back against all the condemnation the devil manages to make us believe. Through personal stories to made up ones Steven shows us how to fight the endless chatterbox in our heads.

"And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" 1 kings 19:12-13

"God whispers because he is close" This has to be one of my most favorite parts in the entire book! nor will i forget the message in these six little words. God whispers because he is close to us, he doesn't have to yell. The devil shouts constantly in your mind, and gets louder when you get closer to God, trying to pull your attention away from God, all because you are getting further and further away from his evil ways. Just a few little words from Gd gently whispered in our ear can set us on the right path.
There is so much more I could go one about, but I think i will leave it up to the rest of you to find this book and read it for yourselves. All in all I highly suggest this book to anyone and everyone, you will not regret it

I received this book for free from Blogging for Books for an honest review, which I have given.

The pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn

Here's another review for another amazing Christian historical fiction book!

I command you -- be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

Tamsen Littlejohn has to take all the courage she can muster, or be forced into a marriage she does not agree to, but it takes more then courage to escape her wicked stepfather. It takes God to work within the hearts of a young man named Jesse bird, and Tamsen's mother. Jess bird helps the young woman escape after Tamsen's stepfather kills her mother before her very eyes. In a time meant for grieving Tamsen must travel through a mountain range with a man she barely knows.

"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Now I'm sure you all can guess how hard it can be to be near a beautiful young lady, and it's even worse when your heart is being yanked in her direction, Jesse Bird had to bare with these feelings and with no one else to hold him n check, he had to pray constantly for strength, but he prayed more for Tamsen's healing, knowing the journey was wearing on her and she had yet to shed a single tear. He was patient and did his best to protect her, even with the false charges of kidnapping and murder hanging over his head. Tamsen tried to protect him by marrying him, but with the states of Franklin and North Carolina at war with each other they'd have to be married twice just for it to be legal! When their first attempt did not go well Jesse brought them to his hometown pastor, who had a good long talk with both of them and reminded them they could wait. In most books I've read like this they do get married right away, it was refreshing to see this spin on it and even more realistic in my opinion. One of my favorite parts is when the pastor is talking with Jesse and telling him to give Tamsen a little time to heal, to be what she needs right now, and that wouldn't he want to their her to marry him because she loves him, not because she's trying to protect him. So many people try to rush relationships, but their like a tree in a ways, it takes time for them to sprout up from the dark place they've been buried, and they need plenty of warm loving sunshine to coax them out out of that tiny seed.

"A false witness will not go unpunished, and a liar will be destroyed" Proverbs 19:9

This verse is true for all of us, but most especially for Mr Parrish, Tamsen's stepfather, met his punishment for lying about Tamsen's mother and for his greed for moeny, which is all he cared about. "For the love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows." 1 Timothy 6:10. Take this warning to heart, all evils come around to right to you.

"And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32

It is true, and in the book all truths came to light for Tamsen and all her friends, and it had a wonderful ending. I do recommend brushing up on your history to enjoy the book even more, but Lori Benton does explain it a bit after the end of the story, and the reader's guide had questions that were very thought provoking, so pre-order this book as soon as possible!

Echos of mercy Review

Here's another review for one of Kim Vogel Sawyer's amazing books!

"For everything that is hidden or secret will eventually be brought to light and made plain to all." Luke 8:17

This books has a lot to do with secrets and lies, but it's main bases is the well-fair of children and how it can effect not only their lives but the lives of others. Caroline Lang is and Investigator in 1904, going undercover into work environment to see how their workers are treated, mostly their child workers. When a friend of her boss and adoptive father dies from falling down an elevator shaft in the middle of an investigation he asks Caroline to see if it was in truth in accident or did someone push their co worker down to his death. The time elapsing between getting to Sinclair and getting the job at the world famous Dinsmore factory a lot happened to Caroline, and even though she got the job she felt horrible for those who didn't and truly needed the job. Interviews today are much different, but how often do we give thought to the others who try out for the exact same job? This little piece of Caroline gave me much to think about and taught me that we should offer prayers for those who did not make the cut. Things are hard in this economy, and they are getting worse by the day, so I pray things will change for the better.

"Fathers, don't aggravate your children. If you do, they will become discouraged and quit trying." Colossians 3:21

One of the girls applying for the job that had been given to Caroline managed to find herself in trouble, with little food and the treat of her father beating her Letta tried to steal some crackers from a small store, luckily Caroline was there to pay for the mistake. This encounter brought Letta and her two younger brothers into her life, who Caroline became determined to help put through school. The children's father was not a kind man, and their mother leaving them and taking all their money when she did not help them one bit, a testimony to the need of having both parents in your life. Letta and her brothers showed how it feels to be unloved and unwanted. We need to care for those who have no family to call their own, who don't have parents to teach them right from wrong, show them the love Jesus Christ has shown them!

"For everything that is hidden or secret will eventually be brought to light and made plain to all." Luke 8:17

Every secret is reviled, nothing can be hidden from God, not any dark corner or room can shield your actions from Him. Caroline, Oliver, Letta, and few other people's secrets are revealed in the light of God, just as he planned it. I will not give away any more, but I will say Kim Vogel Sawyer has done in again with this trilling, adventurous, romantic novel. I can wait for the next one!

I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review, which I have given.

SisterChicks do the hula review

Okay sisterchicks in training, it's time for another review!

Sisterchicks do the Hula is an awesome books for the old, young, and the young at heart. I wasn't sure what t expect when I read this book, it seemed okay, but this two women have got me looking into going to Hawaii with my very own Sisterchick, Ashlyn! Now you are probably wondering what a sister chick is, so here it is:  a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you’re being a brat. Who wouldn't want someone like that in their lives?

"The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense" Proverbs 27:9

Hope and Laurie are the main characters of this novel, after reconnecting from years of seperation the girls decide to take a trip to Hawaii, a plan they had made in collage. Together they Learn to do the Hula and much more then they expected. Like what the counsel of of a good friend can do when you are feeling down, like Hope when she turned fourty. Laurie knew just how to cheer her friend up, chocolate! Who isn't cheered up by chocolate?

"Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out one after another, calling each by its name. And he counts them to see that none are lost or have strayed away." Isaiah 40:26

How often do we take the time to stop and smell the roses? To enjoy the beauty of God's creations? Everyday we could be surprised by something new, something God has put on this earth to marvel in. Hope enjoyed everyone of God's gifts, and thanked him for them. Laurie noticed how her friend did this, even in collage, and she wondered if God marvels in His creations, including us. It was thought provoking and made me think how God sees us, and it makes me want to read my bible even more so I can learn more about God and his love for all his creations.

"Sing joyful songs to the Lord! Praise the mighty rock  where we are safe. Come to worship him with thankful hearts and songs of praise. The Lord is the greatest God, king over all other gods. He holds the deepest part of the earth in his hands, and the mountain peaks  belong to him. The ocean is the Lord’s because he made it, and with his own hands he formed the dry land. Bow down and worship the Lord our Creator!" Pslams 95:1-6 CEV

Another thing in this book that sparked my interest was the contemperary version of Pslams Hope brought along with her on the trip. She read verses from it and to hear those verses put in another way, but with the exact same meaning made me use a verse from that translation of the bible and makes me want to pick one up myself.

All in all Sisterchicks do the hula is a great book to read before going on any summer vacation, it's lighthearted, funny, and makes us look at the beauty of the world the Lord has laid out before us. I know where I wanna go when I turn fourty! See you all in Hawaii!

I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review, which I have given.

Celebrating Christmas 365 days a year

Okay I know what you are thinking "um, is this girl crazy?" But Christmas is about celebrating our Savior's birth and giving thanks to Him. Why don't we celebrate that every day? Christmas isn't meant about decorations, boxes wrapped up under a tree, it's suppose to be about praising God. He gave us His only son so that we might be saved from our past, present, and future sins.

"Oh, how I praise the Lord. How I rejoice in my Lord and Savior! For he took notice of a lowly servant girl, and now generation after generation will call me blessed. For he, the Mighty One, is holy. His mercy goes on from generation after generation, to all who fear Him. His mighty arm does tremendous things! How he scatters the proud and haughty ones! He has taken princes from their thrones and exalted the lowly. He has satisfied the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with empty hands. He has helped his servant Israel! For He promised our ancestors-- Abraham and his children-- to be merciful forever."  Luke 1:46-55

Mary sang this out with great joy when she met with Elizabeth, praising God for blessing her with a son, and for entrusting her with His only son. Some people think that Mary was bring prideful, but she wasn't. She was accepting the position and gift God had given her with humbleness and joy, and giving Him praises for all that He is and all He has done for her. How would you feel if someone didn't accept a gift because you felt it was too much? what if they sent it back? Wouldn't that hurt? Just yesterday I received my birthday present from my best friend Ashlyn and her mother, they sent me a laptop. It was far more then ever expected when she told me she was sending me a gift, she said it was to help with my schoolwork, which I had admitted to her I was having trouble with. It stirred my heart so deeply. I didn't know what to say to her but thank you. It was a great blessing from God to receive such a gift. I wanted to sing out in thanks, but I figured that I didn't want to scare Ashlyn with my horrible singing, since she was on the phone with me when I opened my present.

"I love you Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold. I will call on the Lord who is worthy of praise, for he saves me from my enemies" Psalm 18:1-3

The book of Psalm is filled with so many beautiful songs singing praises to God, more and more lately I have felt my heart singing out to Him, praising Him for everything he has bestowed upon me, his child. I want to burst out into song when I hear good news for my friends and family, even complete strangers, which they did a lot back in biblical times. Music is such a huge part of our lives. So if you feel the need burst out into song, sing to your heart's content, cry out your joyful noise. I found myself having a hard time communicating with God, I felt like my prayers were hitting the ceiling? have you ever felt like that? I talked to my friend William, he suggested a few things. He said to try dancing, drawing, writing, or even singing to Him, God will listen to what I have to say, I just had to break through that mental barrier I'd put up. It worked wonders for me, so why don't you give it a try?

"But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from His sanctuary; my cry reached his ears" Psalm 18:6

I have been listening to the song Let it go from Disney's Frozen, mostly the version by Demi Lovato (Her voice is so beautiful)

And I can't help thinking about how Elsa felt to be free, and how much I want that myself. I know much of how she felt, even though I am the youngest. I had to struggle to be the "Good girl" to be what everyone else wanted me instead of what God wanted me to be. The mask I wore to please the people around me almost became permanent, along with the torture in my heart, but God revealed Himself to me, saying this was not who I was meant to be, nor should I try to be anyone else but who I am. Relief was one of the many things felt when Christ began filling my heart and soul. So let go of the past, let God's peace and freedom envelope you, for He will take all your fears and pains to a place where they an never reach you again.

There are so many ways to celebrate Christ, don't miss the chance to praise him for all the wonderful blessings He has placed before your very eyes, you never know if He's setting down another one, maybe even under the Christmas tree.

Coming soon to Figment.com, a devotional inspired by God and written by Kaitlyn W.

Cloak of the Light Review

Another book from Blogging for books!

“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” 2 Corinthians 4:18

With Chuck Black’s Cloak of the Light I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but I got something better then I expected. We all imagine the world we cannot see, but believe in with all our hearts; the world of Angels and Demon. He brings this world to life with surprising detail, though he had little to go on, Chuck Black used the few biblical facts about angels and demons that he could find.

In the book our focus is on the character Drew Carter, a man who’s had a very hard lot in life, and an unbeliever. Three deaths hit him hard in the gut, change his life for the worse, strengthening his resolve that there is no God and that in this world only logic and good sense will serve you well. There were so many times I wanted to whack him over the head and tell him to get a clue. Even when his crush brought him to a bible study, the pastor even felt a need in his heart to change the sermon, and used very good logic Drew refused to believe.

Drew’s best friend Benjamin was a science wizard from the start, but when his collage professor goes missing after an amazing project is completed he believes the FBI is after them, because the invention could speed up light and what they thought to be aliens were revealed. Benjamin came to Drew with this, and to prove he wasn’t crazy took drew to the lab and let him look through the machine. But one of these beings saw them, and wasn’t too happy. The machine exploded, leaving Ben badly burned, and Drew completely blind.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

So many times we rely on what we understand, what we think is possible and impossible, but we forget that the Lord is the Almighty, and he has the power to do anything. He did create every single one of us after all. But Drew knows nothing of Him and such a thing is going to be dangerous for him with an army of demons wanting the young man dead.

“Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.” Proverbs 4:23

What I liked most about this book was the character Sydney. Her faith in Christ was so amazing; she kept it with her and let the light in her heart shine. Even Drew noticed there was something different about this girl, though he could never place it. She refused to date someone who did not share her faith, though she loved Drew greatly she kept her heart on guard for she knew the effects it would make if she compromised. Sydney also showed great strength even when she knew the situation looked really, really, bad! But she prayed to the Lord to watch over them and to save them, and she showed Drew that power, though again he didn’t know it.

All in all this is a great book for reader’s young and old. It stays at a good pace, keeps you interested, and wanting more. I cannot wait for book two of Wars of the Realm!

I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review, which I have given.
