Okay sisterchicks in training, it's time for another review!
Sisterchicks do the Hula is an awesome books for the old, young, and the young at heart. I wasn't sure what t expect when I read this book, it seemed okay, but this two women have got me looking into going to Hawaii with my very own Sisterchick, Ashlyn! Now you are probably wondering what a sister chick is, so here it is: a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you’re being a brat. Who wouldn't want someone like that in their lives?
"The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense" Proverbs 27:9
Hope and Laurie are the main characters of this novel, after reconnecting from years of seperation the girls decide to take a trip to Hawaii, a plan they had made in collage. Together they Learn to do the Hula and much more then they expected. Like what the counsel of of a good friend can do when you are feeling down, like Hope when she turned fourty. Laurie knew just how to cheer her friend up, chocolate! Who isn't cheered up by chocolate?
"Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out one after another, calling each by its name. And he counts them to see that none are lost or have strayed away." Isaiah 40:26
How often do we take the time to stop and smell the roses? To enjoy the beauty of God's creations? Everyday we could be surprised by something new, something God has put on this earth to marvel in. Hope enjoyed everyone of God's gifts, and thanked him for them. Laurie noticed how her friend did this, even in collage, and she wondered if God marvels in His creations, including us. It was thought provoking and made me think how God sees us, and it makes me want to read my bible even more so I can learn more about God and his love for all his creations.
"Sing joyful songs to the Lord! Praise the mighty rock where we are safe. Come to worship him with thankful hearts and songs of praise. The Lord is the greatest God, king over all other gods. He holds the deepest part of the earth in his hands, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The ocean is the Lord’s because he made it, and with his own hands he formed the dry land. Bow down and worship the Lord our Creator!" Pslams 95:1-6 CEV
Another thing in this book that sparked my interest was the contemperary version of Pslams Hope brought along with her on the trip. She read verses from it and to hear those verses put in another way, but with the exact same meaning made me use a verse from that translation of the bible and makes me want to pick one up myself.
All in all Sisterchicks do the hula is a great book to read before going on any summer vacation, it's lighthearted, funny, and makes us look at the beauty of the world the Lord has laid out before us. I know where I wanna go when I turn fourty! See you all in Hawaii!
I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review, which I have given.
