Book 2 in the key west series focuses on the story of Prosperity of Nantucket. After losing her mother, and with no relatives willing to take her in, she must make a hard decision. Rely on the charity of others or risk going across the sea to the little island of Key West to marry her fiance?

I came into this book series unsure. Book 1, Love's Rescue, was a good book, but not one of my favorites. If you have ever started on a book series and had this same experience I highly suggest holding on until you read book two to make your final judgement.

 Honor Redeemed fixed everything that the first book lacked.  The dialog and detail were even with each other, giving readers a picture of their surroundings without cutting out the much needed interaction between the characters that helps the story move along.

Another point I held in high regard when writing this review is the author, Christine Johnson, brought into life with the perfect words all throughout the book the struggle to forgive, the hurt a person feels when there is no answer to the pain inside their hearts. I felt a deep connection to Prosperity during these times in the book. 

For historical fiction you will find many relatable characters and scenes within the pages of Honor Redeemed. It would be a good selection for a group of friends to read together.

SeaRose Lane

SeaRose lane far surpasses it's predecessor, Hope Harbor. With a slightly lighter tone, but still full of the realistic hardship that caught my attention in the first book, SeaRose Lane gets deep into the lives of two of Hope Harbor's residences Eric and BJ.

Our story returns to the peaceful town of Hope Harbor. A young man, Eric Nash, returns home after he is laid off his job as an attorney. Having been so close to the position of Partner Eric is feeling down and thrown into the waves of uncertainty. Somewhere he did not want to be. Then she runs into BJ Stevens, quite literally, creating feelings he's never had before.

BJ came to Hope Harbor trying to find peace, and she did until handsome young man ran into the back of her truck, who happens to also be her client's son. Romance is the last thing BJ is looking for, but she can't ignore the feelings that are growing inside her.

Both are looking for new beginnings, but on the shores of Hope Harbor they might just find more.

I wasn't sure if this book was going to be good, or if it would have the same issues of plot progression and too much detail, like the first book. I was happy to find myself wrong! 

The author had fixed whatever kinks I had with the first book when she wrote this one. 

The point of views switched around often enough that you didn't get bored with one of the characters, but not so often that you'd get annoyed and speed read just to get to the character you wanted. Many real life issues were addressed in here with raw emotion and accuracy. I couldn't stop myself from crying during some points. And the topic of putting God first in your life was a more dominate factor in this book, which helped me to enjoy and relate to it more.

If you're looking for a realistic contemporary romance I highly suggest picking up SeaRose Lane, you won't be disappointed.  And the next book is coming out in early 2017, so you'll have more to look forward to like I do!

Magnolia Duchess

I had been looking forward to reading The Magnolia Duchess by Beth White, the third book in the Gulf Coast Chronicles series, as I had enjoyed reading the second book in the series, The Creole Princess. (My first book in the Revell review program). It didn’t take me long to find myself lost in the world Beth white created with war, love, and loyalty as it’s main theme.

I really enjoyed the historical aspects woven throughout the plot of the story. I don’t remember too much of the history of 1814, but reading the Creole Princess and The Magnolia Dutchess has gotten me interested!  There is such detail about the settling of the coastal areas around the Gulf of Mexico. This story provided me with a better understanding of some of the details that helped to make the Gulf Coast a part of the United States of America.

It’s always fun to reconnect of the characters from previous titles in this series came back into the story throughout this book. I enjoyed seeing how their lives were playing out since the previous books.

I really struggled with one of the main characters in this book – Charlie Kincaid. As I read, I found his character to be hard to get a feeling for.. As a main character, his reactions to situations are  highly unpredictable – often not in sync with who he’d been portrayed to be earlier in the book. His interactions with other characters were also  seemed forced.

Some relationships were also rushed, making the story a bit difficult to keep up with

I loved reading The Magnolia Duchess, but it wasn’t up to par with its predecessors in the series.

If you’re looking for an informative yet enjoyable read on this time period I’d definitely recommend picking up a copy of each of the books in the Gulf Coast Chronicles series by Beth White. It is a good mix of solid facts and good storytelling

On Lone star Trail

The final book in the Texas crossroads trilogy has left a stamp on my heart as one of my favorite series. Lone star trail brings back characters we loved from the first two books and gives us two new characters to fall in love with. Greif was a theme in this book. Handling any type of grief is hard, from the loss of a loved one to the loss of your entire future. Both are difficult to understand. The fear of the unknown would love to swallow Gillian, while Benjamin wants to race into the unknown to outrun his past.

 I also love that this book show God can use any tragedy to not only further His kingdom, but to bring two people together and bring healing in both of their lives.

I really did have a hard time putting it down, though book two is still my favorite of the series, this one put the perfect ending to the series. I will miss these characters, though I can’t wait to see what this author will come up with next! it’s going to be hard to trump this amazing texen series, but it has been done before.

A Sweet Misfortune

A sweet Misfortune is book two in the Virtues and Vices of the old west, but I was able to fully enjoy this sweet novel without having read the first book, though i really want to now. This book is one you can sit with in a chair on the back porch in the sunshine and happily stay there for hours.

Most novels that are set in the old west have one of two problems;

1. They are too dramatic.

Authors want to make books interesting, so they add all sorts of dangers throughout the book, making it a little hard to believe that anyone could run into that much trouble.

2. They are too dull.

Some authors try to be as historically accurate as possible with their books, putting their novels in a bit of a bind with where the plot can go.

A sweet Misfortune had neither of these problems, which for me as a reader made the experience of reading all the more enjoyable There was a right blend of humor, friendship building into love, some chaos thrown in, with a message of God’s love to complete it. So if you are looking for a good book to start your Summer reading list I recommend trying this series by Meggie Breden.

Always Watching

Suspense doesn’t begin to cover this book. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book, wondering, waiting, always watching for the next turn of events.

I am new to Lynette Eason’s novels, but I can say I am a fan now. I usually read books with more romance or that are in a historical setting, it took some getting use to a modern fiction book with so much action and so few answers. Lynette doesn’t make her bad guys identity easy to guess, at least not in this book. The Elite Guardians are a group of well trained bodyguards, each one of its founding members were once a some type of law enforcement before creating the business, and they aren’t afraid to go out into the field. Oliva is one of the three founding members and our main character.

Ice doesn’t begin to describe her cool personality, and the control she has over her emotions is something only pain from the past can accomplish. Then there is Wade, her new client. He’s a radio talkshow host, a psychiatrist, and works for a charity. Hard not to like this guy, right? Well someone has set her eye on him, and not in the most attractive way. His stalker has become ruthless, taking out anyone who might be a threat. So what happens when Oliva steps onto the scene as his new bodyguard?

This well written novel is just the first in the new Elite Guardians series, and I honestly cannot wait for august to get here so I can read book two. This will become a new favorite series to new and old fans alike. The characters are complex, and well developed, and it’s not focused so much on just the two main characters. It brings a whole host of characters to life, and each are special in their own way.

There is also the theme of surrender in this book, surrendering control, the guilt, and fear. I found it interesting how the author showed how to deal with fear in a Christ like way, something have been trying to deal with myself

I cannot say more about this book without REALLY spoiling it, and that isn’t fair to you readers, but please get this book! it is amazing.

We're going on a Trial Run

Time is almost in the eye of the beholder, and for everyone all over the earth it means something a little different. In Trial Run we get a new look at time and what it could mean for so many.

This isn't my normal choice for a book, but trust me if you had read the description for it you'd find yourself hard pressed not to pick it.

Two teams are after the same thing, controlling out of body experience and defying time itself, but for two very different reasons. Reese, a member of U.S. government wants her program to succeed to gain secrets and power. Gabriella and her team wish to find truth about out of body experiences and what it could mean for man kind to control them.

I wasn’t exactly sure what to make of this book, it honestly seemed too much like a book for science geeks then for a romantic like myself, but I was happily surprised to find out I was very much wrong.

Love is not excluded from this book of action and mystery. Gabriella has someone pinning for her, wishing to show her a love she has never known, but things get complicated from the very start and for the poor guy is seems almost hopeless, but he still doesn’t give up on her. Trent, our grad student thrown into the maelstrom of our story is brought together with a young woman named Shane, and though she is weary of his intentions they become business partners and find a more then just mutual friendship is growing between them.

Reese Clawson is not your typical fictional villain. Most are cold and give no regard to human life whatsoever. Reese is different. Thomas Locke has created a character I am unsure what to do with. She is still the bad guy, and what she is doing is wrong, but I see these glimpses of humanity in her and I have to wonder what Tomas has planned for her. It is so very hard to say, but even if the rest of the book had not held my interest I would have kept reading just to see what happened to Reese and her team.

Luckily for all you readers out there the book in its entirety was amazing. I did wonder where the Christianity was in this book, but the pieces fell into place (sort of) near the end of the book, and I am hoping book 2 will reveal more to us readers.

If you enjoy a well balance between Romance, action, and mystery then I suggest picking up Trial run and buckling yourself in for one wild ride.

Hope Harbor

Hope Harbor becomes a place of healing for three weary souls in this tale of regret, romance, and God’s grace.

I really need to stop getting more books, but the description of Hope Harbor drew me in. Though honestly the description even on the back of the cover does little justice for it.

The story begins with a widower named Michael Hunter trying to find some solace in the place his wife had loved so much, Hope Harbor. When he arrives he the only hotel in town is closed. Frustrated, lonely, and depressed Michael wonders through town trying to think of a plan. Along the way he run into our two other main characters Tracy, a twenty some odd year old woman running a cranberry farm, and Anna, an old woman with a heart hardened by her past.

I did not except to be so captured by the book within just the first two pages. Irene Hannon has an exceptional writing style that flows and keeps a well pace, keeping you interested in each chapter as you pass by. I did feel quite a few were a little long, not a book you can read a chapter or two before you go to bed.

The story takes many unexpected turns not just for me but for the characters too. Showing God’s hand in many of their situations. Such as Tracy trying to help her uncle Ben to keep the cranberry farm afloat, only to have him catch a cold later on.

Or Anna and Michael, neither expected the bitter older woman to offer him a place to stay. Yet still she did.

After chapter 5 it does slow down a little, which made it hard for me to read, but it does pick up latter on. It has some of these slow spots throughout the book, but that is really a minor thing and the book is still extremely enjoyable.

With secrets kept within the crypts of the hearts of our three main characters you will find yourself not wanting to put the book down for most of the day. I will admit I wanted to skip forward several chapters just so I could find out why Tracy kept her heart locked up so tightly. Irene will bait you with little tid bits here and there, more then enough to keep you reading.

 I enjoyed this book and if it sounds like your cup of tea I hope you guys and girls will pick one up too.
